Barking Abbey Girls' Academy travelled to Orlando Florida
Barking Abbey Girls' Academy travelled to Orlando Florida this March as part of the Academy Programme's continued support in helping students explore post 18 overseas options.
Ten players traveled along with coaches Sharon Brownlie and Joe Sheehan and were hosted by Montverde High School who are the top high school for sport in the United States. Our students took part in a homestay programme with the players and parents from Montverde.
During the trip the team, joined by host players played three competitive games against two American sides and a Dutch side. The team also visited three colleges which were Eastern Florida Junior College, Rollins College and the University of Central Florida. Whilst there our students got the opportunity to tour the campuses, meet the coaches and example what student life would be like.
Other excursions included a trip to the beach, Universal Studios and an NBA game.
Head of Girls Academy Sharon Brownlie: "Having traveled to the Dallas Cup for the past two years this was a slight change in format but it worked very well and I feel we came away having ticked so many more boxes. Our players got to play three competitive games, visit a number of colleges and take part in a homestay programme which enabled them to see the various options available to them. Our students have returned to school very motivated and with a clearer picture with regards to what options are available to them."
