Boys & Girls Football Academy Information
Barking Abbey Boys Football Academy was originally founded in 2003 and this was followed by the introduction of the Girls Academy in 2009.
Both programmes offer a full time football and education package for students aged 16-18 (Years 12 & 13). This includes the opportunity to study a range of both A Levels and BTEC courses which are combined with daily football coaching delivered by qualified coaches on our new and impressive 3G training facility.
Barking Abbey Football Academy Boy’s and Girl’s both currently run two teams. The Boys Football Academy first team play under our semi-professional link club name AFC Hornchurch in the Football Conference Youth Alliance. They also compete in the prestigious FA Youth Cup as AFC Hornchurch. In the 2015/16 season we qualified for the 1st round proper before losing 2-0 to the professional side Leyton Orient.
The Girls Football Academy first team play in the English Colleges National Premier League against schools and colleges linked to Reading, Birmingham City and Bristol City. In 2015/16 season the Girls Academy won the National League for the first time and also made the semi-finals of the National English Schools Cup.
For those students interested in exploring international scholarships, we are able to provide the relevant support including the opportunity of attending annual International Tours. Next April we will be taking our students to participate at the Dallas International Cup in the United States where we will play against top international teams and have the chance to be seen by college scouts.
We are looking for experienced players with the passion and determination to succeed in delivering the educational requirements of our 6th form whilst also adding to our already talented squads. We are not exclusive to an outside club which therefore allows our players to continue training and playing for their own teams.
Barking Abbey School is well situated within the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Upney Underground Station is a ten minute walk away whilst Barking Station is 20 minutes from our Upper School site. We are also well serviced by local bus routes. In addition Barking Abbey Students are eligible to apply for the Student Smart Card which allows you to 1/3 off journeys made on the C2C line. Students are also able to apply for a young person’s Oyster Card which entitles you to 50% of each journey.
