Colin Pond Scholarship
At a ceremony held at the Broadway Theatre on the 17th October, Ayida Khan, Yusra Akram, Joanna Macinnes, Jyotsna Mony, Osman Choudhry and Plesha Ragoonath were presented with the Colin Pond Scholarship. This is Borough-wide and representatives from the Borough were there to celebrate with students from each Borough Sixth Form. The £500 award is given to the six top GCSE students who then progress to study in their school's Sixth Form. This a wonderful and well -deserved award for these hard working students.
The impact of this scholarship has been hugely positive. Here is Sowmiya Gunabalasingham's reflection on what the scholarship award meant to her when she received it in 2017.
"The scholarship has aided with my studies in terms of highlighting the rewards that arise as a result of consistently working hard and aiming to achieve the best. It has shown me that I have the potential to keep achieving high, which has pushed me to try and achieve the best grades possible. The money will help fund my university fees alongside the money that my parents and I have saved. I will be applying to study Medicine at a number of universities, including Cambridge. The grades I achieved at the end of Year 12 along with my work experience and volunteering roles have set me up really well to apply to study this course."
