Maria Balshaw visits Barking Abbey

The school had the pleasure of inviting one of the most powerful ladies in the Art world both here in the UK and across Europe who came to speak to Years 9-13 students on Thursday, 28th June. Maria was appointed CEO of the Tate galleries (both Tate Modern and Britain here in London with the Contemporary in Margate and associated galleries in St. Ives and Liverpool) in 2017 - the first woman to take on this prestigious and powerful role in its 130 year history.

Maria spoke to a large number of 300+ students in the Sandringham Road hall about how important it is in the 21st Century that for economic and cultural progress we allow our creative industries a chance to flourish.
