EABL
Barking Abbey got off to a winning start in the EABL with a 78-59 win over Canterbury High School on Wednesday afternoon.
A competitive game throughout, it wasn’t until a 20-8 final quarter that Barking eventually broke the contest open. After trailing by 7 at the half, Canterbury enjoyed a fine 3rd quarter to lead by a point going into the 4th.
The home team eventually found their range from beyond the three point line to change the game. Led by six threes from Tautvydas Meliauskas they had a total of 13 in the contest to eventually punish a good team defensive performance from Canterbury
Jonathan Brown led Barking Abbey with 22 points against his former team, whilst Meliauskas finished with 18 and Robin Bedford 11.
For Canterbury Chester Morrell had 14 and Milo Gordon had 12 as their two double figure scorers, whilst Jonathan Fakile chipped in with 9.
Barking Abbey coach Lloyd Gardner commented:
“I thought this was another good win for us. Canterbury had a game plan and as always was well prepared for the game. I was pleased that we eventually managed to break the game and stuck to our principles throughout. Credit to Canterbury I thought the score flatters us in the end and they put together a good performance ”
Barking Abbey will be on the road against Oaklands next week in the EABL whilst Canterbury will travel for a tough road encounter at City of London Academy.
