Boy Blue Foyer Show
09 May 2025Our 10 academy dancers were in invited to perform at Boy Blue's Foyer Show on Friday 9th May as part of a 3-day event for A Night with Boy Blue - UK's leading Hip Hop Company. We worked with Lara McCabe, Olivia Francis, Anmol Kaur and Poppydene Lingham, all from Boy Blue, to create a piece called 'Six.42' for this performance. We are extremely honoured to have been a part of this show for a 3rd year in a row. Their consistent commitment, discipline, and passion has been nothing short of remarkable and a reflection of their unwavering dedication - We commend them wholeheartedly.

Dance Spring Showcase
24 Apr 2025On Thursday 3rd April, the Dance Department performed in their annual Spring Showcase. Students from Years 7-13 had the opportunity to share their work from the Autumn and Spring terms with staff, friends and family in the Sandringham Campus Main Hall. It was an outstanding night with extremely professional and high-quality performances from students and special guest artists, a true display of UK Dance talent. The energy in the room was contagious and inspiring for all in attendance and we are beyond proud of our phenomenal students for their performances, entertaining everyone with another incredible night of Dance.

Move It 2025
07 Mar 2025On Friday 7th March, we took 27 dancers from Years 10-13 to MOVE IT 2025 for the day, the world’s largest dance convention at Excel London. This was an incredible opportunity for our students where they got to explore various career pathways through stalls, live performances, and professional industry workshops with top conservatoires, colleges, universities, and institutions which enhanced their performance, creativity, confidence, and appreciation skills.

U.Dance 2025
23 Feb 2025On Sunday 23rd February, our Dance Academy were shortlisted to compete in their second competition called U.Dance 2025 at the Laban Centre. U.Dance is a national celebration of dance performance by young people aged 11 – 19, offering young Londoners an incredible opportunity to experience dance performances, choreography, and workshops by leading professional dance artists. Our dancers worked with Ayshen 'Icy' Mustafa-Abdullah to create a contemporary-fusion piece for U.Dance, named 'Not Like Us'. Watching our dancers commit themselves so fully was inspiring - We deeply appreciate their hard work and determination.

Borough's United
09 Feb 2025On Sunday 9th February, our Dance Academy alongside a few KS4, competed in their first ever dance competition called Borough's United at Hackney Empire Theatre - Borough’s United is a 25-year-running competition for dancers, poets, MCs and singers, bringing together young people, their families and friends from over 30 boroughs in a peace campaign to end violence, with over 2,500 young people have taken part over the years, including Jermaine Jackman, Little Simz, Leone Lewis, Diversity and Twist & Pulse - Also making Barking Abbey history in the dance department competing in a competition, let alone of this scale. Our dancers entered for the Over-13s category as ‘B.A.D.D’ and out of all the acts they competed against, we came 3rd and brought a TROPHY HOME! A massive achievement for all our dancers and the department. We are extremely proud of the hard work, commitment, dedication, maturity, and resilience that our dancers had during this process.

Watching 3rd Year Performances at the Laban Centre
06 Feb 2025We were thrilled to be invited and take our academy dancers and some KS4 to watch some 3rd Year performances at the Laban Centre. This was an excellent opportunity for our dancers to gain exposure to the skills, advanced techniques, creativity, choreography styles, professional stage presence and technical aspects that go into a high-level performance. This trip also provided both our KS5 and KS4 dancers with insight into the choreography/performance module at Trinity Laban, as well as providing them with ideas for their practical dance assessments. A valuable and inspiring experience.

BADD World Tour
11 Jul 2024Our BADD Word Tour, end of year Showcase was another yearly success. This show incorporated pieces choreographed by Mrs Agyekum, Mr Turner, Miss Maynard, Mrs Cope, and the students. This show varied in dance styles, music genres, and had two mega pieces - Inspired by Michael Jackson and Savage x Fenty by Rihanna.

LYG Regional Finals
26 Jun 2024Wednesday 26th June, the Dance Department took our LYG Borough Final winners to The Copper Box Arena to compete in the London Youth Games Regionals Dance Competition and came 5th out of approximately 15 schools. We are extremely proud of the hard work, commitment and dedication that our dancers had during this process. May this be the first competition of many!

LYG Borough Finals
15 May 2024On Wednesday 15th May, the Dance Department took 11 KS3/KS4 dancers to Dagenham Park to compete in their very first dance Competition called the London Youth Games Borough Dance Finals. We competed in the KS4 category and…. WE WON and made it to the LYG Regionals Dance Competition at the Cooper Box Arena on Friday 28th June against all other finalists from other boroughs!!!! These students only had 3 intense rehearsals to prepare for this competition and Mrs Agyekum, Mr Turner and Miss Maynard honestly could not be any prouder!
