Millwall 5-3 Barking
Partnership club Barking FC produced an incredible performance in the third round of the FA youth cup away to Millwall. Barking FC are 7 division below counterparts Millwall FC but showed great courage to take on the Lions in the Den. Barking demonstrated great resilience to stay in the contest and it was in the second half that Barking rolled the dice and took the game to Millwall. The introduction of sub-Finlay Dorrell spurred Barking on when his first contribution provided Addae with the pass that led to Barking's first penalty. Kien Connolly stepped up to convert calmly. Millwall responded quickly to make the game 3-1 before Finlay Dorrell then won the third Penalty of the match to give Barking another opportunity, once again Connolly obliged, cooly placing high above the diving Millwall keeper to make it 3-2! Dorrell then sent the Barking fans into a frenzy as he burst clear of the Millwall defence before drilling the ball past the despairing dive of the Lions Keeper to take the tie to 3-3. Momentum had swung and it looked like the unimaginable was going to happen as Barking surged forward for a winner and Barking thought they had sealed the tie in the dying minutes when a crisp turn and shot from Connelly was palmed out to Taylor Jacobi who was waiting to pounce only to see his shot agonisingly creep past the far post and wide.
This let Millwall off the hook and allowed them to regroup at Full time.
Unfortunately, Millwall came out the brighter of the two teams as their professional fitness told and Barking conceded two Extra time goals to allow Millwall through to the Fourth round where they play Grimsby Town away.
Carl Emberson Director of Football
"It has been a colossal effort from this squad of players. They have competed against two Pro academies beating one and taking a championship academy to extra time just goes to show the quality of this squad. The boy's created history as the first ever Barking FC & Essex senior league youth team to get to the third round Proper of the FAYC! They will remember this experience for the rest of their lives!"
