    Abbey U21’s Women have started the season strongly and are unbeaten so far with 5 wins and 2 draws in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and conceding 5. Currently sitting 2nd in the league and sit top of their group, having already qualified to the knockout stages of the cup, Abbey are looking forward to a busy period leading up to Christmas. Coach Mike Lowne had this to say on the team’s good start to the season, ‘The girls have started the season well and I am looking forward to seeing them improve as we go on. There is a great team spirit, they are a competitive group that work hard to improve and have good personalities.

  • National Alliance U19 Youth League Division E Champions

    Barking Abbey Boys Football Academy were crowned National Alliance U19 Youth League Division E Champions after a last game shoot out against National league rivals Eastleigh Town. Abbey took on their title contenders at home in the last game of the season with both teams on 58 points! Abbey had to beat Eastleigh as a draw would have been insufficient as Eastleigh had a superior goal difference. Abbey started brightly and demonstrated a desire to take the game to Eastleigh.

  • Girls Football Academy play National Final at the home of championship club Queens Park Rangers FC

    The Girls Academy finished off a hard season with a memorable day by representing the school and its Football Academy programme in the National Youth league Trophy final against a strong Arsenal Oaklands side. Abbey’s confidence was high after a string of good results. The game proved to be an end-to-end game, within two minutes there were two early goals! Arsenal Oaklands struck in the 2nd Minute, when their strikers combined well to open the Abbey back line, before Arsenal’s No 9 striker slotted the ball under Abbey goalkeeper Garwood.

  • Abbey Academy Boys March into Quarters-Finals of the National Cup after beating Brentford CST

    Zolani Dlodlo’s brilliant solo display helped Abbey cruise into the quarters of the National League cup against a strong Brentford side that fielded 6 professional scholars. Abbey started brightly when Dlodlo smashed home a left screamer from 25 yards. Finlay Dorrell made it 2-0 when he slotted home from close range. Brentford responded well and equalised to make it 2-1 at half- time.

  • Three Barking Abbey student athletes sign professional contracts

    An incredible season ended in 3 of our young student athletes signing for 3 different professional clubs. Jack Turner Abbey Defender Jack Turner signs one-year deal with recently relegated premier league club Burnley football club Essex-born Turner had captained Abbey at youth level including against Southend United in the FA Youth Cup last term. Now having officially joined the Club, Turner said: “I’m delighted to be signing for a big Club like Burnley, one which has fantastic facilities and staff to help me develop. “Having got to know all of the lads around the place over the last couple of weeks, I’m looking forward to working hard now, and improving every day.” Jack still managed to crucially complete his BTEC Sport and A-level Business education at Barking Abbey Before Moving into his passion of becoming a full-time professional footballer.

    Barking Abbey Football Academy can celebrate another National team call up, as student-athlete Adrijus Lapacinskas is called up to represent Lithuania at U19 National level in their first game that resulted in a 0-0 draw against Finland. We wish Adrijus and the team the best of luck for tomorrow's match as Lithuania U19's take on Latvia!

  • Football academy student-athlete makes his senior international debut

    A huge congratulations to Abbey Year 13 student-athlete Kymani Nelson on making his senior international debut for Montserrat against Guyana in the Concacaf Nations league match. Kymani produced a fine display of shot stopping as he made a string of saves late on in the game. Director of the Boys football academy Carl Emberson said: “What a great experience for Kymani, we are all delighted for him. He has shown a tremendous attitude as a student-athlete at Abbey.

  • Abbey Academy boys lose cup final penalty shoot out

    Barking Abbey 2-2 ShenField PENS 3-5 Barking Abbey development squad battled hard to try and retain the Coomer cup Trophy they won pre pandemic in 2019. Shenfield made it difficult by keeping everyone behind the ball and looking to counter-attack. The first half was more of a chess match with both teams trying to work a goalscoring opportunity, Shenfield getting the first real chance of the match where Callum McEvoy made a smart save in the 23rd minute. Minutes later Abbey had a shout for a penalty when Zolani Dlodlo burst clear only to be tumbled over from the on-rushing Shenfield Keeper!

  • Abbey boys clinch Essex U19 Open Cup
    12 May 2022

    A superb team performance allows team Abbey to be crowned Essex Open Cup Champions. A tough game was anticipated against a strong SEC college who club partnership with semi-professional side Concord Rangers. However, Abbey started brightly and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Andre Anderson calmly volleyed home from close range. SEC College responded quickly and forced Abbey keeper Kymani Nelson into two great saves, first save saw Nelson palm away a fierce drive, the second Nelson stood up well to save with his legs.

  • Abbey Boys Football Academy advance into another cup final
    17 Mar 2022

    Team Abbey had to fight hard in the semi-final of the Coomer cup against a strong Seevic Storm side in what was our second semi-final match of the season. Amir Icare equalised for Abbey in the first half before Seevic took the lead again. Abbey left it late with just two minutes left Peter Angelov managed to wriggle clear of his marker and send the tie into Extra Time. It was again the quality of Angelov that was to prove to be the decisive moment of the match, when with 1 minute of extra time remaining and the dreaded penalty shootout looming, Angelov pounced with a fantastic right footed volley from the edge of the Seevic box to snatch a hard-fought win and put Abbey into another final and help keep the dream alive of a Team Abbey Quadruple!
